Unamerican BCS: When you pretend the BCS is real you legitimize a flawed system

The BCS system in College Football is a flawed system and nothing like it exists in Major North American sports. We must deal with ESPN/ABC et al. announcers and pundits having PSEUDO DEBATES about this scam each and every week. We have no choice because we all want to watch the games. They even discuss the scam during the games so there is no way to avoid it. This weekend I heard two announcers interview a BCS rep and explain to the viewer that it is a business decision at the end of the day. Matters such as whose fans can travel the best and fill a hotel were presented to the viewer as if they were remotely typical in terms of the spirit of American competition. What can you do as a fan? Simple: Refuse to have a discussion with anyone who brings up the BCS or "National Championship" race. Dismiss it. Do not engage. Do not opine on the top 5. Do not analyze the various schools in the "race". When we elaborate we make it legitimate. It is far from legitimate and closer to corrupt. Dismiss it. Rip it. Spread the word on it.

A more extreme approach below:

Do not legitimizes a flawed system by talking about the BCS "race". If a coworker asks your opinion, push them to the ground and say the following in a calm yet assertive voice: The playoffs, postseason,or finals of a sports league are a series of games played after the regular season by the top competitors,to determine the league champion or a similar accolade. The term and concept are most widespread in North America.

The curse of Doug Flutie

It has been 10 long years since the Buffalo Bills inept "braintrust" of Wade phillips and G.M. John Butler whacked Doug Flutie after week 15 of the 1999 season. Fucking Headband boy Rob Johnson got the start in week 16 and after a good game against the Colts he was named the starter for the Wildcard round. We all know what happened next The Bills have not returned to the playoffs since. That is what you get for replacing a small god with a tall fraud. Fuck you Wade Phillips. Jerry Jones is on line 2 with the 3rd down play.

In response to a Boston Sports Writers criticism of Bill Belichick's Fourth Down Play Call against Indianapolis

Full time wet blanket Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe thinks that there is Little reason in some of these arguments in terms of fans or media defending-or even acting open minded- to Belichick's decision to go for it on Fourth down and 2 from his own 28 yard line against the Colts. I decided to respond in the negative as did most of the readers who commented on this article. If your not from Boston, Dan Sahughnessey is the prototype misery loves company,
in my day we walked 7 miles in the snow to school, wait for you to fuck up so I can slam you REGARDLESS of how well you have done your job for years, sportswriter for the Boson Globe. (Note: you really have to read his piece or my comments below have no context)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amos Alonzo Stagg Huh? Do you realize Football is an ever evolving game? Do I have to breakdown the changes in the past 20 years alone?

There are no Tomato cans in the NFL. Tell the Saints that after this past weekend.

Did it occur to anyone that "Would you do it again?" is a question without any substance? Belichick's answer "you only get one chance." just illustrates that the guy does not think like the average person or wish to engage in the social commentary surrounding his decisions as head coach. That is an honest answer. Hire Brian Billick if you want him to break it down. At least BB is consistent week in and week out. What he means is you only get one chance in that moment and the next time a possible decision comes up it will be in that moment based on those factors. It is simply not relevant to ask "would you do it again?". This is how smart people analyze situations and make the most educated decision. Sometimes that decision involves RISK. Sometimes the decision does not work out. But sometimes you win 3 championships...Shaugnessey is just upset that he had to shelve his THEY SHOULD HAVE PLAYED FOR OVERTIME column after Belichick went for it and beat the Rams in 2001.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I respect that.’’

TRANSLATION:
I. DON'T. CARE. WHAT. THE. MEDIA. OR. FANS. THINK. I make decisions to try and win games for the Patriots.

Why can't DS and others understand that. Sure, you have opinions. But he does not care. Nor should he. You are not relevant at the end of the day. In terms of affecting a decision made in a game.

We can consider ourselves fortunate as fans to have a coach that does not consider his job security, society, or the media in his decisions. He acts to win. Period.

Lastly, I am so happy this happened. You're trying to tell me those young, fast, competitive athletes will decide to be hurt? NO WAY. They will work twice as hard to prove to their coach that they can win a game against top competition. Do not be surprised to see this defense perform incredibly for 4 quarters against New Orleans in 2 weeks.

Lebron James has a really stupid idea he wants you to hear

Lebron James wants the NBA to retire the number 23 across the entire NBA as a tribute to Michael Jordan. This is obviously a completely ridiculous idea.

When asked about it by Amhad Rashad on "The Real NBA" Show on NBA TV, Michael Jordan inserted logic and common sense into the "debate" and pointed out that players like Russell, Chamberlain, and others would also have to have their numbers retired for something like this to make sense. Why? Because to paraphrase Jordan's comments, the NBA is bigger than one player. Jordan went on to say-half jokingly but probably more accurate than we want to admit-that Lebron might be looking to sell more # 23 Cavs Jersey's. A clear reference to the fact that Lebron conducts himself like a brand as opposed to a real person.

Is it me or does it seem like every comment Lebron makes is now a calculated PR move?

Why 95% of people will not understand Belichick's gamble

The New England Patriots did not get to where they are by shying away from risk. And neither did Bill Belichick. Clearly anyone watching the game could see that the Patriots defense could not be trusted on the final drive if the Patriots had elected to punt.

It is reasonable to say the Colts had an 80% chance of scoring after a punt. And in all likelihood this would have left under 30 seconds (probably less) for the Patriots to counter with a field goal.

Going for it does 2 things:
1. You get 2 yards with the best unit on the field and you win.
2. You do not get it and the Colts put one in faster than they would have with a longer field. This almost happened on the second play of the drive if not for a tackle at the 1 yard line.

People do not understand the concept of risk. If something out of the ordinary is done and fails then it is obvious to them that convention would have worked. This is simply not true. But these people will never understand the concept. Because they make 29K per year working at INITECH.

N.H. Police Keep us all safe by arresting 105 underage College students for drinking!

For those of you in fear of underage college students DRINKING in New London, New Hampshire, it is time to take a deep breath and relax because the New London Police are here to save the day. 91 Underage Colby-Sawyer College students have been arrested for underage drinking at a house party. The horror. Let me preface by saying I am not a cop basher. But this story is hard to believe.

From WMUR New Hampshire:

"Police said officers observed about 150 people, some of whom were underage students drinking alcohol in or around the house. State troopers and more officers from New London, Sunapee and Colby-Sawyer campus safety assisted in the investigation."

"Police used Breathalyzer tests to cite 55 minors for possession of alcohol by internal consumption. Police said the minors' blood-alcohol level registered at 0.02 percent or higher. All 55 people arrested will be summoned for appearance in Newport District Court."

"That's probably one of the largest arrests that I can remember in 23 years here," New London Police Chief David Seastrand said."

Great win Dave.

Parents are certainly not happy. Here are a few comments on the story that seemed to be rooted in adult logic unlike the Police actions in this case.
"As a parent of a Colby-Sawyer student, the entire situation was ridiculous! Wouldn't it have made more sense for the police to break up the party and send everyone back to their dorms??? There was no drinking and driving involved; maybe the police have nothing better to do with their time but I find it absurd that all these students got arrested when there was no unruly behavior to provoke this; just an off duty cop who happened to hear some noise!!! Students at Colby-Sawyer weren't doing anything different from any other college on a Friday night; however, the police have caused the students and school to get bad publicity which they don't deserve. If they were out of control it would be a different story, but I certainly don't think blowing a .02 on a breathalizer is cause for concern!!!"

"No one was read any rights and the cops entered the house without being invited. Yes there is probable cause however when the cops were asked they said they did not even know there were that many people at the house and thought it was just noisy and originally were not going to do anything but ask to quiet down. The cops had no way to tell people were underage before entering the house and were out of line."

It is an often used argument but I do not see the problem with agreeing with the following statement: They are old enough to grab a gun and fight a war. But having a beer is absolutely out of the question.
Everyone is for public safety. But to say it is strictly a drinking and driving measure is foolish. How many locals are getting drunk and leaving the local bars on a weekly basis? Where is the 105 arrest lesson there? What is with these half measures against drinking and driving? Bullshit. It is not about that.

My message to the students of Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire:

REBEL! FIGHT! Have a party next week and make it twice as big. If this were 1969 your parents would have setup a party complete with a bonfire 50 yards closer to the station the following week. PROTEST! Have a large gathering without Alcohol and march to the station just to prove a point. Invite the media. You are old enough to die for your country but you can't have a beer at college without getting thrown in the clink? Unacceptable. Please tell me this group of 105 students is not a group of automatons that have forgotten what it is to challenge authority, question our laws, and dare not to live their life in fear.

Be as safe as possible without living your life in fear. Drink responsibly. 21 is just a number. Common sense can be an attribute of an 18-19 year old. Be smart. Don't drink and drive. But dammit you deserve to be a college student. Keep having house parties and do not let this deter you.

I would say that the amount of time I spend playing NCAA 2010 Football online has reached epidemic proportions.

In 8 short hours gamblers everywhere will feel the rush of excitement running through their degenerate veins as the noon College Football games for Saturday November 14, 2009 Kick off and provide us all with another reason to dream big. FREE PICK: Take Notre Dame and the 7. Why? I will tell you why. Dave Wanndstadt plays not to lose. 80% of the teams that win time of possession win the game. The Stache knows this fact well if you have ever watched him coach. I am not knocking that strategy as it relates to winning. But as it relates to covering the 7 against a Notre Dame team with comparable athletes...well..just take ND that's all. Enough touting. Feel the excitement you fucking degenerate.

Stargate Universe: Caught the last few episodes on demand and I must say I am undecided at this point. I can't figure out why I watch it. It is just not bad enough to shut off. No, I am not a virgin I swear.
